IF BARBERS WENT ON STRIKE

          All sorts of people go on strikes either in protest against something or in order to force certain demands. Factory-workers, Laborers, Bus-Drivers and Conductors, Railway men and even students go on a strike. Now let us suppose all the barbers went on a strike.

What will happen then?

          It will have some very amusing as well as annoying results. Women will be almost unaffected by such a strike because they have no botheration of shaving and as for hair-dressing, well, they could go with out having their hair trimmed for a while. For men alone, a barber’s strike would be a terrible thing. A hair-cut could be postponed for a while. In fact, overgrown hair are even considered fashionable. But shaving could not be postponed beyond one day or two. Those who grow beards may be lucky in this case. Even those who do not like to shave at home would have to start shaving themselves.

          The prices of razors and razor-blades will start soaring up. That would be one of the first results of a barber’s general strike. In fact, the demand for razors and blades will go so high that the things may fast disappear from the market. Cuts and bruises on the faces will be a common sight and the sale of cold cream and antiseptic will be in full swing. It is very possible that people may be so fed up of shaving and cutting their faces so often that they may decide to grow beard! Well, then bearded faces may become a common sight. So when the barbers decide to with-draw their strike they may find their business slack. Therefore, it is in their own interest not to think of going on a strike.
